What is an eSIM?

  • It is an embedded SIM card in your device that does not involve any physical cards.
  • You don't have to do any physical swapping of cards to install it.
  • It is a non-removable card and is easy to activate.
  • eSIM works when supported by a compatible network.

What are the advantages of an eSIM?

Devices with eSIM facility also contain a slot for the physical SIM enabling you to have two lines at the same time.

You could use one number for business and another number for personal calls or have an internet roaming SIM for use in another country. You could even have totally separate voice and internet plans.

If the device is in standby and both the SIM and eSIM are provisioned, you will be able to receive calls and texts on both numbers.

You can choose a default line that you make calls on, use SMS and other services. The other line can be used just for SMS and voice.

eSIMs will also be great for other devices like laptops and tablets, where seamless connectivity will become the norm.

How to buy an eSIM

  • Visit any VIVA branch.
  • VIVA agent will activate a new eSIM number (it could be your existing number also).
  • The agent will provide a QR code for you to scan and activate the eSIM.

How to activate the eSIM

  • Ensure you are connected to the internet
  • Go to ‘Settings’
  • Open ‘Cellular’ - Add Cellular Plan
  • Scan the QR code
  • Label your eSIM as a primary or secondary line
  • Do not dispose of the eSIM as you will need it for future re-registration
  • The eSIM can be used for one device only
  • In case of changing your device, you should get a new eSIM

How to use the eSIM

  • Devices may have more than one eSIM installed but only one will be active at any given point of time.
  • Devices will be able to monitor both eSIMs.
  • When one eSIM is on a voice call, the other eSIM will not be usable for voice or internet.
  • If the device detects just one eSIM, it will function like the normal SIM.
